Why Are We Here?

I’d first like to thank Danny Miggz for giving me a place to truly embarrass myself off the ice as much as I’ve done it on the ice.

Now that we’ve got that out of the way, here’s where I stand:

I am not the type of Rangers fan who feels the need to shit on the Islanders. What I want, as a Rangers fan, is to see these two teams play games that mean something again. I want to see them brawl in the playoffs. I want the 12 regular season points they fight over have playoff implications for both teams. What I really want is to see them meet in the Eastern Conference Finals year after year.

But what’s it going to take? That’s what this blog intends to explore. Instead of rooting against the Islanders, I root for them. I admit it right here and now, I really don’t know much about the Islanders. From this Ranger fans perspective, Rick DiPietro is always hurt and has a crazy 15 year contract. Matter of fact, “Rick DiPietro Contract” is the #2 Google search… right behind “Rick DiPietro.”

As far as the Rangers… I’ve been a fan since I was 5, and I would like to take this time to ask Jim Dolan to fire Glen Sather. But he wont, because he clearly doesn’t know who the fuck Sather is, or who the Rangers are. Fuck you Jim Dolan. Fuck you indeed.

So that’s that. The playoffs are still on for some select hard working teams, but not for the NHL’s two* NY teams (assuming the Islanders don’t get moved to Kansas City or God knows fucking where). We’ll take this “time off” to follow the offseason closely. We’ll talk about contracts. We’ll talk about the draft (and how the Islanders will somehow fuck it up). We’ll talk about free agency.

That’s right, we’ll talk about it all. And why are we talking? Because once again it’s May, and we’re not watching our teams battle it out for Eastern Conference Supremacy. We’re watching the Ovechkins and Toews of the NHL steal the show instead.

*Buffalo doesn’t count!
